Friendship

I designed this for my dear friend Karen. The diamonds at the top are because her friendship is more valuable to me than gemstones, the hearts are for love, and the semi-circles in the border are the hugs that I give her long distance because she lives 400 miles away.

This shawl pattern is written up in two sizes. If you want a different size finished garment, you can change it by simply changing needle sizes or knitting the motifs a different number of times than I have indicated. The beads are optional.

Yarn: lace weight: 800 yards; cobweb weight: 1,300 yards.
Model: Zephyr Wool-Silk, Plum [Yarn Place, Gentle, Deep Ruby].
Needles: US size 5 (3.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.
Crochet hooks: US size E (3.5 mm) or larger crochet hook for the provisional cast on. US size 13 (.85 mm) crochet hook, or whatever size fits through the hole in your beads.
Beads: Size 8/0 seed beads 11g (20g).
Gauge: 2.5 inches wide x 2 inches high (6.3 x 5 cm) [2.25 inches wide x 1.75 inches high (5.7 x 4.4 cm)] in diamond motif, measured across the width and height of a finished diamond at top edge, blocked.
Finished size: 76 x 36 inches (193 x 91 cm) [106 x 55 inches (269 x 140 cm)].
Notions: A short length of waste yarn is required. Lifelines and stitch markers are optional.
